The
primary function of any church, and of any Christian, is the worship of
God. This involves corporate
worship of the congregation, and individual worship that takes place on a
daily basis.
When First Baptist gathers for worship, we do so with
reverence for we are coming into the very presence of God.
We seek to offer an offering of our worship that will give honor to
God, our Creator and Savior. Worship is not intended to simply “entertain” the
congregation; it is an offering to God.
Although worship is directed toward God, it must also be relevant
to the everyday needs and life situations of the worshipping community.
You will find a great variety in worship style and
content over the course of the year, from the rich pageantry and liturgy
of Advent, Lent and Easter, to more casual and intimate services
emphasizing youth and children.
Music is an important element of any service.
The four vocal choirs and two instrumental groups regularly
contribute to the worship event. The sermon is traditionally central to Baptist worship; while
preaching is important, we seek to make every element of worship
meaningful to the community of faith.
The weekly children’s message, choral anthems, organ and other
instrumental music, congregational hymns, prayers and liturgy all form a
united experience where the human and the Holy can meet and interact.
